Dwain Louis and Classmates - "That's All Right"

Greetings and a happy Tuesday to everyone. Went to the St. Louis record show on Sunday and made out pretty well, as usual. I hope to post a list of my best finds here later in the week. Not a lot of time today, so I'm sort of throwing a post together.

Today's record is something I found in an antique mall last week. For those who don't know, I live in a rural area, dotted with small towns. There are lots of flea markets, antique places, thrift shops and the like to check out and I've had some pretty good luck lately. Case in point, "That's All Right" by Dwain Louis and Classmates. I found this lurking amongst some trashed 60's hits and pristine looking 50's pop. Not sure how this monster wound up in the stash but it was certainly priced right, so I brought it home not knowing what a great record it is.

Here, we have a tremendous, rockin' version of the Arthur Crudup tune, recorded by Elvis and many others. Info is very scant on the record, though it has been comped a time or two. The year is unknown. The artist is all but unknown. If anyone can fill in the blanks, I'd be grateful.

Terry Gordon's Rockin' Country Style has the Carole 45 listed, but the B-side is missing. A scan of the B-side might help to find out more about the record.

You must have been reading my mind. I sent Terry Gordon scans of both sides of the label, as well as a sound file for the flipside.

From popsike.com : "Primitive screaming rocker recorded at WIBV studio's Belleville ILL in 1959. Ron A.K.A. Uncle Buck Lipe (Marlo, Ron-Mar labels) was the engineer. The lead guitarist also played with Kenny Loran on Dawn records in the same period. Unreleased and Rare due to the fact that almost all copies were destroyed by water damage. Action ended at 1000 $!!

Pretty amazing info, thanks. Belleville, IL makes some sense, since I found my copy less than 100 miles from there.

Hello,

My name is Laura Vonk and my Dad, Billy Angel is the lead guitarist on this record. He's also the one previously mentioned who toured with Kenny Loren in the 1959. The B side is "My Baby". I have one of them, but sadly, it's pretty scratched up. I also have the paycheck stubs from Carole Records from when he sat in on the recording. They are from 8/15/1959 and 8/22/1959.
