Well, it looks like it's been another while since either Todd or I posted. Today, we break the monotony a little bit with a record that's become a bit of a fave since I picked it up in January. I'm talkin' 'bout the ever-super, ever-fine "Heartbeat" by Gloria Jones.
What I find strange is that I can't find any chart listings for Jones, even though I've seen a clip of her doing this song on "Shindig." (Search YouTube.) If Jones is remembered for anything, it's that her "Tainted Love" only made the U.S. Top Ten in a cover version by British electro-poppers Soft Cell. You would think with as dynamite as this record is, it would have made some headways. I guess not.
What matters more than anything, though, is that this is a really hot, smokin' slab of full throttle soul that goes full speed and never stops, spilling over onto both sides of the record. I'm sure a few of you music bloggers know about this record already, but for those of you who don't know it, here it comes. Hope you enjoy the ride.
