Indy Show Finds - March Edition

Today, I spent a good few hours doing what record collectors like me live to do. Diggin', of course. Yep, it was another Indy Record Show and once again, I had a good haul. I got to see Scott, who came down from Wisconsin and he had a few choice items as he always has had in the past. And I really lucked out at a table that had everything priced to a buck or less. Well, without further adieu, here's how I made out:

Yvonne Fair: Say Yeah Yean (Dade)
Yvonne Fair: Just As Sure (As You Play, You Must Pay) (Smash)
Conway Twitty: Shake It Up (Mercury)
Kool and the Gang: N.T. Parts 1 and 2 (De-Lite)
Jeanne and the Darlings: Hang Me Now (Volt)
Bobby Sax: Sock It (DePlace)
The Soul Sisters: Flashback (Sue)
The Ikettes: Prisoner of Love (Teena)
Mack Rice: My Baby (Lu Pine)
Mack Rice: Love's A Mother Brother (Atco)
Buddy Lamp: Have Mercy Baby (Peanut)
Hank Ballard and the Midnighters: The Switch-A-Roo (King)
Hank Ballard and the Midnight Lighters: On The Love Side (Polydor)
Vicki Anderson: If You Don't Give Me What I Want (I Gotta Get It Somewhere Else)(King)
Vicki Anderson: Baby Don't You Know (King)
Bob and Earl: Dancin' Everywhere (Mirwood)
The Ovations: Dance Party (Goldwax)
Spyder Turner: You're Good Enough For Me (MGM)
Otis Clay: She's About A Mover (Cotillion)
Bobby Freeman: Can You Stand The Pressure (Double Shot)
Solomon Burke: Keep Looking (Atlantic)
Better Sweet: Like The Flowers (M.O.C.)
Arthur Conley: Aunt Dora's Love Soul Shack (Atco)
The Great Gaylord: Squat With Me Baby/Do De Squat (Norton)
The Short Kuts: Hold It Baby (Pepper)
Tommy Tucker: Chewing Gum (Checker)
Jackie and Tut: 10-2 Double Plus (Chess)
O.V. Wright: I'm Gonna Forget About You (Back Beat)
Rufus Thomas: I'll Be Your Santa Baby (Stax)
James Brown: Tell Me What I Did Wrong (Federal)
The Endeavors: Manchild (Gambit)
Lee Dorsey: Ride Your Pony (Amy)
Esther Phillips: Cheater Man (Atlantic)
King Curtis: Soul Theme (Atco)
Laura Lee: Rip Off (Hot Wax)

And that about does it for this time. Next show is in four weeks, so I guess I'd better start savin' my pennies. I'll no doubt have more to tell you about when the time comes. Until then, this stuff oughta keep me busy for a while. As always, if you have any questions about any of these, leave a comment and I'll try to answer them.

I'll be back a little later this week with another music post from O.V. Wright. Stay tuned.

Where and how often is the Indy show? How does it compare to the St Louis show? Any other shows in the area I should know about? Hip me to the info, please. Thanks!

The Indy show is held every two months at the Ramada Inn at Pendleton Pike and I-465. I've been to the St. Louis show myself and I think it's a little bigger than Indy's but the last couple of shows here, they've expanded quite a bit. I always find some cool stuff. The next show is May 3rd from 10 to 3.

I know there's a show in South Bend, but I don't know too much about it. I know that the same people who put on the Indy show also do shows in Louisville, KY, Cincinnati, OH and Nashville, TN.
That's about all I know for now. If you need anything else, get in touch.

Wow, y'know, way back in '93 I was in a band recording at Coyote Studios in NYC and there on the wall of singles, amongst such luminaries as Hasil Adkins, was The Great Gaylord's double-sided "Squat" single, with framed photographs of the man himself recording his vocal in full aplomb. It was a great, funny memory seeing this magnificent picture sleeve on my daily arrivals. I sure hope you post the whole thing soon, that'd be fantastic...
