O.V. Wright Memorial and Tribute Concert
I have sort of a special blog post today. Yes, I'm taking time out of my busy posting schedule (heh, heh) to bring you something a bit different. Yesterday, I received an e-mail from Red Kelly. If you're not familiar with Red, he's the purveyor of such fine blogs as Soul Detective, The "A" Side, The "B" Side and Holy Ghost. I'm not sure how he finds the time to run four blogs, let alone pack them with tons of great information.
Additionally, Red has something special that he's been participating in over the past several months. I'll let him explain in his own words, taken from his e-mail.
"As you may have noticed, I became involved with the O.V. Wright Memorial Fund this past March. Our goal was to collect enough money to place a headstone on O.V.'s unmarked grave down in Memphis. Through the generosity of Soul Fans from around the world, we have been able to raise over $2000, and have ordered the monument that was selected by O.V.'s widow, Alberta. It will be dedicated in a graveside ceremony at the Galilee Memorial Gardens in Memphis on Sunday, November 16th, the 28th anniversary of Wright's death.
We will be holding a tribute concert in conjunction with all of this the night before at the Ground Zero Blues Club in Memphis. The event will feature Otis Clay and Hi Rhythm performing the music of O.V. Wright, along with some possible 'special guests'.
Proceeds from the sale of tickets will benefit The Soul of Memphis Foundation."
Red goes on to explain that he's in charge of promoting the concert, a role that's completely new to him. He's kindly asked that some of his friends around the net help him in his task. I'm more than happy to do so.
As you can see, the concert will be held on November 15 at the Ground Zero Blues Club in Memphis and feature Otis Clay. Tickets can be purchased through the O.V. Wright Memorial Fund site.
