It's Great Shakes Radio #5 - Club Nitty Gritty

Today, I decided that I'd put together a mix that features several of my favorite finds of the past year, 16 in all. I don't believe that any of these have appeared on the blog before now. It's mostly up-tempo stuff and I hope that everyone likes it.

Here's the rundown:

Travis Wammack: Louie Louie (Atlantic)
Chuck Berry: Club Nitty Gritty (Mercury)
Little Richard: Dance What You Wanna (Vee-Jay)
Shirley Ellis: Sugar, Let's Shing-A-Ling (Columbia)
The Sweet Delights: Baby Be Mine (Atco)
Trini Lopez: Sinner Not A Saint (United Modern)
Herbie Mann: Philly Dog (Atlantic)
Round Robin: Slauson Town (Domain)
The Shangra-Las: Simon Says (Smash)
Gene Chandler: Soul Hootenanny, Part 1 (Constellation)
Willie Mitchell: That Driving Beat (Hi)
Earl Van Dyke: Soul Stomp (Soul)
Jamie Lyons: Soul Struttin' (Laurie)
The Olympics: Good Things (Parkway)
The Brotherhood: Are You A Turtle (Yes I Am) (Dial)
Zu Zu Blues Band: Zu Zu Man (A&M)

Jenny, DD and westex, thanks for the kind words. Glad you guys liked it.

I love that Sweet Delights tune too. Found that disc at the Record Exchange in St. Louis. Great store, if you're ever there. Thousands of 45's, mostly priced in the $3-$5 range.

Love this mix. Particularly Gene Chandler's Soul Hootenanny - which I'd never heard before. Massive tune! I'm going for a dig down at my local second hand record shop. Right now!
